Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) can help businesses save money from absenteeism, presenteeism, and staff turnover costs. The Youth MHFA course is designed for adults who work with children and young people. Our friendly courses led by Dr A.J. Yates will give your staff the skills to increase wellbeing and reduce mental health problems in the workplace.
Mental Health First Aid also empowers people to care for themselves and others. By reducing stigma through greater understanding, the courses designed by Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA England) break down barriers to the support that people may need to stay well, recover, or manage their symptoms – to thrive in learning, work and life. AJMH LIMITED is a private limited company, and member of the Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce, providing mental health first aid training in Milton Keynes and for the surrounding areas – Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, and Hertfordshire. Dr Yates is available to travel outside of these areas for companies that have sufficient staff for in-house training – contact us for further details.
The courses are not only suitable for those in the business sector – the Youth course is specifically designed for people who work in the youth sector, whilst private individuals are also welcome to sign up to one of our courses.
Why Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)?
The Thriving at Work Report (Farmer & Stevenson, 2017) stated that when it comes to mental health problems: “There is a large annual cost to employers of between £33 billion and £42 billion… This amounts to a cost per employee of between £1,205 and £1,560 per year. This cost is for all employees, not just those who are ill“.
Further details about the financial cost, along with more information on MHFA, can be found on the Why MHFA? page.
As well as the financial costs, employers have a legal responsibility to look after the health and safety (including mental health) of their employees – in November 2018, the Health and Safety Executive amended their first aid needs assessment to include MHFA. In addition, the major impact that mental health problems can have on the well-being of individuals and those around them, makes mental health a major social and moral issue for employers.
